A female Cheetah on an Impala kill. We had spent quite some time watching this six year old female Cheetah (Kulete) earlier in the day as she tried to hunt but on each occasion she was easily spotted. We decided to leave her and return later to establish if she had hunted successfully. When we found her late in the afternoon she had taken a pregnant Impala and was enjoying the fruits of her labour. She certainly had her fill. She was very alert, constantly checking for the presence of Hyenas which would steal her meal. It seems likely that Hyenas had taken her last remaining cub just a few days ago. With so many Hyenas around it is very difficult for Cheetahs to raise their cubs to maturity. So good to see a female Cheetah on an Impala kill particularly one of her age. After consuming all she could she finally lay down and we left her to get as much food as she could before the inevitable Hyenas would arrive and force her off the carcass.
