Tiger (the famous Arrowhead) takes a refreshing dip in the lake. It was extremely hot in Ranthambhore National Park, India as evening approached. The oppressive heat was taking its toll on me and the wildlife! This Tiger (known as Arrowhead) decided it was time for a cooling dip in the lake. After a quick drink she got into the lake by reversing in. An unusual sight but an approach often used by tigers. As she lay wallowing in the cool water her tail was never still. As it flicked it sent arcs of water into the air. After a decent session cooling off she went on her way. An amazing Tiger but looking weak and unwell. A life to be celebrated!
Arrowhead is about 12 years old and has raised four litters. She is named after the distinctive arrow-shaped making on her head. She is a third generation Tigress of Ranthambhore. Currently she has a litter of three, 23 month old cubs: one male and two females all of which are strong and healthy. In March 2025 she was tranquillised and treated for an abdominal abscess. She has a large growth on her right hip joint which is suspected to be a tumour. She is clearly a very good mother but is reaching the end of her life.
