Two Spirit Bears fishing on Gribbell Island. The 2017 trip was the third I had made to this wonderful location. Its pristine waters host an abundance of species. Perhaps the most important and oft forgotten is the salmon. The annual salmon run supports this diverse ecosystem and without it this would be a much poorer place for both people and wildlife. Here one can experience some of the marvels of nature. These include bubblenet feeding Humpback Whales, the majestic Brown Bears and their cubs fishing and, of course, the elusive Spirit Bear. On this trip, we saw these and more besides! It was particularly nice to see a Spirit Bear (called Ma’ah, which means grand-mother) that we had seen three years ago. As we watched her fishing she was joined by a second, younger Spirit Bear. What a fabulous experience to see these bears together.
