Jaguar stalking along the river bank. This male Jaguar on the Paraquay River in the Northern Pantanal had been resting in the ferocious heat of the late morning. By early afternoon it had become even hotter. The Jaguar roused himself and set off slowly along the river bank looking for prey. On two occasions he pounced but was unsuccessful in catching one of the many Caiman or Capybara that were close to the river. We heard him make a deep call which was answered by his mother on the opposite river bank. Eventually he swam across the river to join his mother and disappeared into the undergrowth. A Jaguar stalking along the river bank is a truly impressive sight.
