A charming two month old rhino calf. Early one morning in the Mala Mala Game Reserve, South Africa we came across this huge white rhino with her two month old calf. It was lovely to see the calf play with a branch of a bush and to watch it prancing around. The family pair then wandered off into the dense undergrowth. A nice encounter with such relaxed animals. So unusal to see such a charming two month old rhino calf out in the open.
The rhinos had been de-horned to protect them from poachers. This was a tactic that had worked well to prevent poaching and save these most iconic of African animals.
