A female Leopard climbs a tree to reach safety. In Kenya’s Maasai Mara we came upon this female Leopard known as Sankuet. She was being very wary and constantly looking at a tree which held her kill. The reason for this wariness was the presence of some lions nearby: two males from the Molibany pride with a female. The Leopard slowly made her way to the tree with the kill and climbed to safety. The Lions quickly moved away but then she spotted a troupe of baboons in the distance. She definitely did not want them to become aware of her kill so she quickly came down from the tree and slinked away so the baboons would not see her and headed for the cover of a dense bush some distance away. We left her there as the Baboons approached. It was amazing to watch as a female leopard climbs a tree to reach safety but is then threatened by another of their enemies. A fascinating encounter and fortunately the Leopard survived unscathed.
