A Malachite Kingfisher catches a fish.
As we crossed the Sand River in Mala Mala Game Reserve, South Africa we spotted one of the most colourful and majestic kingfishers – the Malachite Kingfisher perched in the reeds above a small pool of water that contained several small fish. Suddenly, with a flash of colour it dived into the pool and emerged with a fish. After smashing the fish on the river bank and onto some reeds to kill it, the Kingfisher swallowed the fish and flew away. A lucky encounter to witness as a Malachite Kingfisher catches fish.
