A polar bear and fulmars near a sperm whale carcass in the pack ice north of Svalbar. As we moved slowly through the pack ice well north of Svalbard we encountered a carcass of a sperm whale trapped in the pack ice. There were a couple of polar bears nearby. This bear was walking around near the carcass and in the open water adjacent to the carcass lots of Fulmars were eating small scraps coming from the dead whale. As the bear approached, the Fulmars took to the air before returning to their feast. A nice, quiet arctic scene!
