A super tusker elephant called One Ton. On the Mbirikani ranch in the Chyulu Hills of Kenya one can find some of the super tusker elephants. On our visit there we spent quite some time with a super tusker elephant called One Ton. He would emerge from the undergrowth heading to the waterhole where he would drink at length. On this occasion after several drinking sessions where water seemed to go everywhere, he wandered off taking a dust bath en route and vanished into the vast area of this ranch. One can get a glimpse of the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in the distance. A wonderful setting to enjoy this most magnificent elephant. One Ton has one tusk so long that it drags on the ground as he walks. It is breathtaking to be up close and personal with a super tusker elephant called One Ton. Such a privilege to be in the presence of such a calm, gentle giant.
One Ton is about 50 years old and in his prime. To qualify as a super tusker elephant, the bulls must have tusks that weigh more than 45kg each. It is not unusual for tusks of this size to drag on the ground as the elephant moves around. One Ton is well protected in Kenya but is vulnerable to hunting should he wander off into Tanzania. There can be no justification whatsoever in the hunting of these rare, super tusker elephants.
