Buffalo spooks Rhino; Rhino spooks Buffalo. As we waited in the dark at Zimanga Private Game Reserve, South Africa, a female White Rhino and her rather mature calf appeared on the scene. Both had been de-horned for their safety. From the gloom emerged a second White Rhino with her much younger calf, their horns intact. They were comfortable with each other. Then some Cape buffalo appeared and this disturbed the Rhino creating a huge dust cloud as they shuffled around. One Buffalo walked close to the drinking Rhino which eventually reacted to its presence causing the Buffalo to dash off running between the Rhino. Then peace descended on the scene. An interesting series of interactions.
