Cheetah on the rocks worried by a Hyena – Maasai Mara, Kenya 2025

Cheetah on the rocks worried by a Hyena. For some time we had followed this female Cheetah (known as Nashipai) through the thorn acacia and then on to some rocks in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy in Kenya’s Maasai Mara. She was alert and wary because a Hyena had been following her hoping she might make a kill and it would be able to steal it from her. This lovely big cat settled down on the rocks, yawned several times and kept a careful eye on the Hyena. Finally, the Hyena passed closely by and head off into the distance. Once the coast was clear, the Cheetah stood up, looked around and then continued on her way. Watching this Cheetah on the rocks was particularly enjoyable not only for the striking setting but because we had seen this very cheetah one year ago when she had four cubs. Three of them had survived and were now independent of her.
