Cheetah takes down an Impala. This cheetah had four six month old cubs in the Naboisho Conservancy, Maasai Mara, Kenya. We had been with them for a few days as she searched for possible foods o we knew she had not hunted successfully and that she and her cubs were very hungry. We spotted an impala some distance away beyond a tree-lined lugga. This provided great cover for the cheetah so we positioned our selves where we thought the direction the hunt may go. Suddenly, the cheetah burst from the undergrowth and a frantic chase began. At first we thought the hunt would result in both animals running away from us but the impala turned and headed straight towards us. They got closer and closer until they were out of focus. We believe the cheetah tap-tackled the impala and the unfortunate creature fell and careered into our vehicle. What a shock. The impact either killed the impala or severely stunned it so the cheetah could quickly dispatch it. Once she had recovered, the cheetah dragged the carcass away from the vehicle, caught her breath and set off to bring her gorgeous cubs to the feast. What an incredible encounter as a cheetah takes down an impala right in front of us. WOW!
