Craig – A super tusker elephant from Amboseli. Let me introduce you to Craig! Craig is a super tusker elephant and was born in 1972 in the Amboseli ecosystem, so was 52 years old when we saw him. He is alleged to have the largest tusks of any living Elephant and is one of the most famous and most photographed Elephants in Amboseli. Of particular interest is to see him with the backdrop of a snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in the Africa continent at 5895m. We were incredibly lucky that Kilimanjaro was clearly visible and we managed to get some super views of him with it in the background. Getting up close and personal with Craig – a super tusker elephant from Amboseli with Kilimanjaro in the background was a dream come true. Craig is one very impressive bull elephant!
To qualify as a super tusker elephant, the bulls must have tusks that weigh more than 45kg each. It is not unusual for tusks of this size to drag on the ground as the elephant moves around.
