Elephants around the baobab tree. Tarangire National Park, Tanzania is famous for its high density of Elephants and Baobab trees – it did not disappoint! In the gorgeous, late afternoon light, this lovely Baobab tree made for a beautiful setting to watch this relaxed herd of elephants peacefully grazing as they made their way along.
Baobab trees can reach heights of up to 30m and can have trunk diameters up to an amazing 16m. They can store enormous amounts of water in the trunk so as to endure harsh, dry conditions. They can be very long-lived: one specimen was dated and found to be 1275 years old!
