Elusive Spirit Bear. The 2017 trip was the third I had made to this wonderful location. Its pristine waters host an abundance of species. Perhaps the most important and oft forgotten is the salmon. The annual salmon run supports this diverse ecosystem and without it this would be a much poorer place for both people and wildlife. Here one can experience some of the marvels of nature. These include bubblenet feeding Humpback Whales, the majestic Brown Bears and their cubs fishing and, of course, the elusive Spirit Bear. On this trip, we saw these and more besides! It was particularly nice to see this Spirit Bear (called Ma’ah, which means grand-mother) that we had seen three years ago. This time she was alone whilst three years ago she had two, adorable black cubs. Films of both encounters with Ma’ah can be found on this site. We were blessed with gloriously warm and sunny weather for most our trip and we had to remind ourselves we were in a rain forest!
