Jaguar close up! A magnificent male Jaguar (Panthera onca) along the river bank. In Brazil’s Pantanal, this huge male Jaguar was prowling along the river bank in search of its favorite prey: Caiman or Capybara. This gave us great views of this wonderful Jagua close up swimming and walking in the water.
The jaguar is the largest cat in the Americas and the third-largest in the world (after the lion and tiger). Its head-body length can reach around 240cm, and its shoulder height up to 75cm. Males can weigh 120kg.
Jaguars have a more powerful bite than any other big cat. Their teeth are strong enough to bite through the thick hides of Caiman. As a result, they can take prey prey three to four times their own weight. Unlike the other big cats, Jaguars usually killing with a bite to the back of the skull rather than biting the neck or throat
