Lions on an elephant carcass. Laikipia Wilderness Camp is located in one of the most remote and truly wild areas of Laikipia, Kenya. As we drove around we thought we could hear faint growling. As we searched for the orin of the growls we found a group of five sub adult lions on the carcass of a young elephant lying amongst the rocks of a river bed. It was not clear if the elephant had died of natural causes or had been killed by the lions. However, the carcass did not look fresh and it was difficult to ascertain how much had been eaten. The lions did not look particularly well fed and were very skittish. But they soon settled down to their feast. Gradually they all wandered off and laid down to digest their meal.
