Male Leopard cub on a kill in a tree during a thunderstorm. In the Naboisho Conservancy in Kenya’s Maasai Mara the rain and thunder had been with us for the latter part of the afternoon. In these fascinating conditions we found a six month old Leopard cub (son of Sankuet) high in a tree feasting on the carcass of an Impala that his mother had taken earlier in the day. As we watched the rain still fell and thunder rumbled all around us. Then the cub, spotting his mother on the ground some distance away, climbed down the tree and trotted off to meet up with her. They greeted each other and moved off into the Thorn Acacia bushes. It was time for us to leave and try to dry out and warm up. Watching a male Leopard cub on a kill in a tree during a thunderstorm is a dramatic experience: Kenyan thunderstorms can be epic!
