Polar Bear rolling in the ice. As we sailed slowly along the ice edge north of Svalbard we came across this polar bear wandering peacefully across the pack ice. Suddenly it began to roll around in the ice. Its fur was rather dirty suggesting it had been feeding recently. The bear headed further into the pack ice and with another roll walked away from us. A polar bear rolling in the ice is always fun to watch. The polar bear, an icon of the arctic, is supremely well adapted to this icy and watery environment. The silence of the arctic is lovely.
