Six-month old male leopard cub on a kill in a tree – Maasai Mara, Kenya 2026

Six-month old male leopard cub on a kill in a tree. For more than ten days we had been following a female Leopard (Sankuet) and her six month old male cub around their territory in the Naboisho Conservancy in Kenya’s Maasai Mara. This morning we found her lying in some bushes near a tree where she had stashed the carcass of Thompson’s Gazelle. It was a rather unusual sight because the carcass was lying on the flat top of an Acacia tree (Acacia gerradii). The cub emerged on to the tree top and began feasting on the carcass. After having its fill, he climbed down the tree and joined his mother in the bushes. A very good view of a six-month old male leopard cub on a kill in a tree made better by the type of tree that had been used to stow the carcass.
