Wolves chase bison, bison chase wolves in Yellowstone National Park. During our recent visit to the interior of Yellowstone National Park we were very fortunate to have multiple, close interactions with the Wapiti Lake Pack of wolves over the course of several hours. It was intensely cold and windy with occasional snow flurries making filming a challenging business. During this particular encounter the wolves were trying to spook a small herd of Bison which included a young calf. It was amusing to see the wolves approach the bison and to see the Bison chase away the wolves. Finally, the wolves chased the Bison herd into deeper undergrowth and we lost sight of them. It was a great experience to see wolves chase bison, bison chase wolves.
In 2025, the wapiti Lake pack numbered 25, one of the largest packs in the park and successful hunters of Bison. It was excellent to see so many black wolves.
