An incredible encounter: Leopard and her cub share a kill in a tree. Kenya’s Maasai Mara is an amazing place to see leopards. We had been following this particular Leopard over several days because we knew she had two cubs. On this particular day, in the late afternoon, we found her high in tree with the remains of a Thompson’s Gazelle which she had taken earlier. As we watched she was joined by one of her cubs. Amazing. The cub began to feed on the carcass and moved it around in the tree. As it did so a large piece fell to the ground. This caused the mother to leave her place in the tree and go down to the fallen food. Seeing her climb over her cub and then climb down the tree was rather special. The cub than took the carcass down to a fork in the tree before taking it back to its original position. All this movement caused huge numbers of butterflies to take to the wing.
