Komodo Dragons: the world’s largest lizard! – Rinca Island, Indonesia 2019

Komodo Dragons: The world’s largest lizard! Several visits to Rinca Island resulted in numerous superb and close encounters with these incredible creatures. Males can reach up to 90 kg and 3m long. Surprisingly at a sprint they can achieve 20km/h. Killing prey by causing sepsis from a bite and waiting for the prey species to die of the disease is now not thought to be correct. They may have venomous bites but this is unproven. It is thought they kill by causing massive trauma from their bite. IUCN lists them as vulnerable.
