A young female leopard calls for a mate. Late one evening in Kenya’s Maasai Mara we came across this young female leopard lying close to a small ditch. As we watched she gave a big yawn and then to our surprise started to call. It seems this was the first time she had come into oestrous and was calling out to attract any male leopards in the vicinity. She moved down into the ditch and called once more. She then began to roll around in the ditch and was clearly being bothered by flies. It did make for an entertaining encounter. It was good to be close as a young female leopard calls for a mate.She had a very loud call!
